Meet the Owner / Therapist
Dawn Brown-Balkcom, M.Ed., LPC
Owner and Clinical Director
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas and the owner of Amani Counseling Services. I provide individual therapy for adults seeking greater clarity, balance, and direction in their daily lives.
My work focuses on helping individuals better understand the patterns that influence how they think, feel, and respond to stress. Many of the patients I work with experience anxiety, overthinking, internal pressure, or a sense of feeling stuck, even while managing responsibilities in their personal or professional lives.
My approach is collaborative and grounded in evidence-based practices, including cognitive and behavioral frameworks. I focus on helping patients increase awareness, examine unhelpful patterns, and develop more effective ways of responding to both internal and external challenges.
I value a calm, direct, and thoughtful therapeutic space. Sessions are guided by both reflection and practical application, with the understanding that change occurs over time through consistency and increased awareness.
Amani Counseling Services was created to provide a space that supports clarity, intentional growth, and improved day-to-day functioning.
Our StoryAmani Counseling Services was founded with the intention of creating a space that prioritizes clarity, consistency, and meaningful change.
Many individuals seek therapy when they feel overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about how to move forward. In many cases, these experiences are not due to a lack of effort, but rather patterns in thinking, behavior, and emotional responses that have not yet been fully understood or addressed.
Amani Counseling Services was developed to provide a setting where those patterns can be identified and explored in a way that is both reflective and practical. The focus is not limited to processing experiences, but also includes examining how those experiences are interpreted and how they influence daily functioning and relationships.
Over time, this work supports greater awareness, more intentional decision-making, and improved ability to navigate challenges with consistency.
The name “Amani,” meaning peace, reflects the broader goal of the practice—to support individuals in developing a more balanced and grounded way of thinking, responding, and functioning in their daily lives.
